BRIEF NOTE ON RAS
Rural Awareness Service is a socio economic cultural association of persons/society founded by Mr. Matangi David Ratnam (Late) in 1991. He inspired by a great social scientist by name Rev Fr Michael Windy (Belgium), who came to India in 1946 and served the 1969 cyclone victims, which was created a severe damage and distressed many families. Mr. Matangi David Ratnam (Late) is one of the close associate of Rev, Father Windy in social work.
After gaining vast experience in social and developmental work, Mr. Matangi David Ratnam (Late) and other likeminded persons formed into an association and registered the society by name Rural Awareness Service under Act XXI of 1860 in the year 1991 in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, India.
Rev Fr Michael Windy, a doyen of social work in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Orissa, unfortunately died at the age of 86, due to liver ailment at Luven in Belgium on SEPTEMBER 21, 2009.
Fr Michael came to India in 1946 as a missionary and started Village Reconstruction Organisation Pedda Kakani near Guntur. His social work in 500 villages in the three states mainly focussed on Dalits, Tribals and Economically backward class. The VRO had built thousands of dwellings for the poor in Guntur, Hyderabad, Rajahmundry, Nellore, Kadapa and many more districts.
The Rural Awareness Service is registered with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, under Foreign Contribution Regulation Act –FCRA, and it is also registered with the commissioner of Income Tax U/s12 A, and U/s 80 G 5 and (vi ) under Income Tax Act 1961. The organization is having Permanent Account Number (PAN) Account as well as the governing body members. The Rural Awareness Service is a member organization in various NGO networks to share and participate in development activities.
The Rural Awareness Service implementing several activities with the support of Government Departments, Ministries, donor agencies and also with the help of local volunteers and donors.
